Trezor Safe 3 vs Safe 5: screen, compatibility and recovery

A dated model comparison from official specifications: two-button Safe 3 versus touchscreen Safe 5, with supported-system and backup limits. No device test or security audit is claimed.

Safe 3 and Safe 5 are different interfaces

On the October 25 retrieval, official product structured metadata returned USD $59 for Safe 3 and $129 for Safe 5. These are source-page metadata snapshots, not a completed checkout quote; model, region, tax, shipping, promotions and inventory can change the final price. The difference in those snapshots is $70.

Safe 3 specifies a 0.96-inch monochrome OLED, two buttons and USB-C. Safe 5 specifies a 1.54-inch colour touchscreen, haptic feedback and USB-C. Both list an EAL6+ Secure Element. A larger screen can help review a transaction; it does not independently prove immunity to a malicious approval or compromised backup.

Watch Trezor set up a Safe 3: seal check, firmware, backup and PIN

Trezor's own walkthrough of a new Safe 3, from checking the holographic seal to installing firmware in Trezor Suite, writing down the backup words and choosing a PIN.

Supplier demonstration by Trezor · Uploaded 2023-12-13 · 6 min. Inspected 2026-10-26.

Plays from YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode). See our privacy page.

What this demonstrates

  • The device ships without firmware. After you confirm the box and the holographic seal over the USB port were intact, Trezor Suite offers the official firmware and then checks that the device is genuine (about 1:50 to 2:30).
  • The backup comes before the PIN. The video offers a regular or Shamir backup, then reveals 12 words one at a time on the device to copy onto the paper seed card, with a warning never to make a digital copy (about 2:41 to 3:40).
  • A PIN is set after the backup, and a passphrase is offered as an optional extra that creates a separate hidden wallet (about 3:52 to 4:20).
  • To receive coins, Suite generates a fresh address and you check it on the Trezor's own screen, which the video treats as the screen to trust (about 4:37 to 5:09).

Recorded and uploaded by Trezor in December 2023. Trezor Suite screens, firmware steps and the supported-coin count quoted in the video may have changed. This is the maker’s demonstration; NeonForecast has not set up or tested a Safe 3.

Compatibility and recovery are part of model selection

The reviewed Safe 3 and Safe 5 pages list Windows, macOS, Linux and Android workflows, and specifically say no swap, send, setup or device management on iOS. The broader comparison gives Safe 7 full iOS support; do not transfer that claim to Safe 3 or Safe 5. Check the specific asset, network and required wallet application rather than a brand-wide token count. Bitcoin-only variants are not the same firmware scope as universal variants.

The model pages describe 12-, 20- and 24-word backup support and multi-share backup. During setup, follow the official model/firmware backup and recovery procedure and verify the device before depositing significant value. Never enter a recovery phrase into this publisher, a web form advertised as support, or a shared cost link. Losing a backup or passphrase can make funds unrecoverable.

We read primary specifications and pricing metadata; we did not unbox a device, verify firmware, test recovery, audit the Secure Element or execute a transaction. Choose Safe 3 for the documented button workflow or Safe 5 for touch/haptic interaction only after confirming your actual system/asset compatibility. This is a source-based model-selection guide, not a hands-on security ranking.

What a hardware wallet changes

Trezor’s official product site describes hardware wallets and the Trezor Suite management application. The use case is signing and managing supported cryptoasset transactions while keeping key material on the device. It does not convert a venue-held event contract or US cash account into a self-custodied asset.

An exchange withdrawal to a supported address/network is a separate transaction with its own costs. Confirm asset/network compatibility for the specific model and wallet software; a brand-level supported-asset count is not enough.

Why it appears beside spot-crypto research

It is relevant after a reader understands whether and how an asset can leave an exchange. It is not required to read a guide, use a calculator or research an event contract. We reviewed public product information and did not perform a device teardown, recovery test or security audit.

Moving assets is a secondary cost question

After choosing a compatible model, a transfer still needs the supported network, receiving address, exchange withdrawal quote and confirmation. These checks are separate from the device specification comparison and are not a device recovery test.
