Watch Koinly import Coinbase history: read-only sync or yearly CSVs

Koinly's video shows two routes for Coinbase: a read-only auto-sync that sends you to Coinbase to approve access, or yearly CSV statements from Coinbase's statements page. Koinly's own import screen warns that CSVs can miss Advanced trade detail, so it recommends the connection if you used Advanced trading.

What this demonstrates

Koinly's walkthrough of bringing Coinbase activity into Koinly, either through a read-only account connection or yearly CSV statements, plus the separate Coinbase Pro export.

  • Auto-sync redirects you to Coinbase to grant read-only access; the presenter stresses this does not let Koinly move funds (about 1:16 to 1:35).
  • Koinly's CSV import screen warns that Coinbase CSV files lack detail on Advanced trades and recommends the API connection for anyone who used Advanced trading (about 1:57 to 2:19).
  • For CSVs, the video generates a custom statement for each year with all assets, all transactions and CSV format, so a multi-year history needs several files (about 2:28 to 2:58).
  • Old Coinbase Pro history needs both the Account and the Fills report for every year, and Koinly notes that new Coinbase Pro API keys can no longer be created (about 3:11 to 5:22).
  • After importing, the presenter reviews the transactions list, including staking tags, before opening the tax reports page (about 5:40 to 6:52).

Apply it to your task

  1. Decide whether you used Coinbase Advanced; if so, prefer the read-only connection.
  2. If you use CSVs, generate one statement for every calendar year you traded.
  3. Review staking and transfer transactions before running reports.
