Kalshi: a source-based product guide

A broad event-contract venue with a price-dependent fee schedule. Best understood through contract rules, order type and total outlay.

Who the product is useful for

Kalshi is relevant to adults researching event-contract exposure rather than owning the underlying asset. A contract expresses a defined question, deadline and settlement source. Its suitability depends on whether that definition matches your question and whether you understand the loss, not on a forecast of winning trades.

This guide evaluates the published fee and contract framework. We have not measured account approval time, customer support quality or withdrawal speed, and no performance rating is assigned.

Trading and non-trading costs

Under the general taker schedule, a 100-contract purchase at $0.50 incurs $1.75 before funding or other charges. Maker fees are not universally zero: listed series can apply a 0.0175 coefficient and market multiplier. The PDF identifies non-standard series and broker/FCM exceptions.

There is no settlement or membership charge in the reviewed PDF. ACH deposits/withdrawals have no Kalshi charge; card and crypto-processing methods can add cost. These distinctions make funding choice part of the product comparison, not merely an administrative afterthought.

Features and practical limitations

An order-book product lets a reader distinguish immediate executions from resting orders, but a limit price does not guarantee liquidity. A small last trade does not establish the price available for your intended quantity. Trading out early requires an executable offsetting order and can create another fee.

The lifecycle documentation separates close time, determination, dispute/amendment and finalised settlement. A disputed result can be re-determined and restart the settlement timer. Expected expiration is not necessarily the trading close time. A known result therefore is not always a completed payout.

A sensible next step

Use the payout calculator with the actual quoted entry fee and your intended contract count. Compare a losing settlement as carefully as a winning one. Then read the US-focused comparison if you need a second venue.

The fee PDF is directly reviewed and dated below. A comprehensive consumer eligibility matrix and a measured account workflow are outside this document’s evidence; they are not replaced with an unsupported nationwide availability claim.

A source-based product selection test

Kalshi belongs on the research shortlist when a listed contract matches the exact outcome you want to understand and its access requirements fit. A generic platform fee cannot answer whether a specific market is liquid or resolves the intended question.
