Same brand, different trading workflow
Kraken and Kraken Pro use your Kraken credentials: you do not need a separate exchange account just to use Pro. Kraken’s consumer interface is for convenient buying, selling and funding; Pro is its order-book interface with advanced charting, order options and a customisable workspace. This guide covers spot use, not an assumption that your account may use margin or futures.
The official guide describes an App switcher at the top-right of the web interface: open it and select the platform. Its FAQ says you can use both mobile apps. Pro and Desktop have no separate platform-use fee; standard trading fees still apply. We read the public guide and expanded FAQs, but did not sign in, switch an actual account, verify balances, submit an order or withdraw funds.
| Task | Simple purchase workflow | Pro spot workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Obtain a convenience quote | Inspect total cash debited and asset units | Inspect executable price, quantity and fee |
| Control an order | Quoted purchase confirmation | Order-book price and maker/taker context |
| Compare fees | Instant-purchase model plus quote spread | Exact spot schedule and tier |
| Account question | Same merchant; verify supported account workflow | Do not assume a new affiliate customer from switching interface |
| Credentials / web switching | Kraken credentials; top-right App switcher | Same Kraken credentials; select Pro in App switcher |
| Platform-use fee | No separate platform-use charge | No separate Pro charge; trading fees still apply |

Quote first or order book first?
If your task is a straightforward purchase, record the amount debited, the net asset delivered and any separate funding charge in the final quote. A displayed fee alone is insufficient because price/spread can alter the amount received.
If your task is controlled order-book execution, inspect the bid/ask, available size, order price and whether any part matches immediately. A resting order is not a guarantee of a fill. Maker/taker status follows actual execution, not the label you hoped to obtain. Neither route protects against asset-price loss.
| Before confirming | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Asset and pair | Availability and pricing can differ by pair |
| Order size and depth | Larger size may reach a worse book level |
| Immediate versus resting | Different fee treatment and fill uncertainty |
| Funding and release | A credited balance may still have a withdrawal hold |

A scoped fee example, not a cheapest-interface claim
At the October 24 base-tier Pro taker snapshot, $1,000 × 0.8% is $8 of execution cost. Add a hypothetical $4 withdrawal and the included cost is $12. Funding, spread, slippage and tier changes remain separate. This is not an executable Kraken quote.
The official platform overview displays a Pro fee range of 0%–0.26%, which conflicts with the exact spot schedule snapshot used in this publication. We do not import that overview range into Cost Lens. The reproducible example stays tied to the dated exact fee schedule; inspect your account tier and current order quote for an actual transaction.
| Input | Example |
|---|---|
| Pro execution | $1,000 × 0.008 = $8 |
| Hypothetical fixed withdrawal | $4 |
| Included total | $12, before unentered funding/spread/slippage |
| Simple quote | Enter actual quoted fee and units; no universal substitute |

Which public answer is sufficient?
A reader choosing a research path can distinguish quote-led purchase from order-book execution from these documents. A reader deciding whether a specific asset, rail or order control is available must confirm their account and geography. We do not claim to have funded, submitted, cancelled or withdrawn an order.
Switching interfaces is a workflow and cost decision, not a guarantee of lower net cost. Inspect supported assets, account restrictions, available funds and the current quote before choosing a route.
| Use case | Useful next step |
|---|---|
| Simple cash purchase | Inspect the exact final purchase quote |
| Order-book cost comparison | Use spot schedule plus current account tier |
| Need tax or custody workflow | Keep records and hardware compatibility separate |
